Texas Journal of Literacy Education
Vol. 9 No. 3 (2022)The Department of Curriculum and Instruction Reading Faculty at Texas A&M University-Commerce took on the editorial duties for the Texas Journal for Literacy Education (TJLE) in the Spring of 2022, after the leadership from the Texas Woman’s University team in the years prior. The A&M Commerce editorial team consists of bright leadership that will continue to not only provide literacy research and content that is relevant at the state level, but the team hopes to continue to push the journal to more of a national presence. The team that was formed comes from a wide array of backgrounds, and will certainly look to fill the journal with diverse perspectives, and make efforts to encourage a balance of scholarly research and practitioner based articles. We also will seek to encourage more of a variety of authors to submit their work–such young scholars, graduate students, teachers, and other literacy educators dedicated to providing quality instruction and practices. We are excited to receieve manuscipts for the next few years, and look forward to learning about and sharing state and national level expertise in literacy education.

Editor's Introduction
This year has been a challenge within Texas literacy settings. Whether you are in a literacy classroom teaching in the K-12 setting or educating preservice teachers who will lead in the future, it has been a time like no other. From more books being banned, to pandemic learning loss, to navigating spaces in which educators are retiring or leaving the classroom at an all-time high—our plates are full. Though our plates are full, we challenge you to reflect upon what makes Texas literacy education spaces amazing and unique. Give praise or a compliment to your colleagues that you serve with in school every day. Go and watch another literacy educator teach. Swap literacy teaching ideas with educators in other districts. Share your research with someone who has never heard it before. Dig into creative ways to teach by taking part in action research. Take opportunities to write for reflection and write for fun. Most importantly, keep creating magic with your students (younger and older) to instill a love of literacy!
As we close out 2023, the TALE Journal Editorial Board wishes to thank everyone who was a part of this issue—authors/researchers, new reviewers, and our faithful reviewers who are always there for us (we couldn’t produce this without you). As you browse through the scholarly and practitioner works in this issue, think about how the work can impact your classroom or someone you know. Share the journal contents, but also consider sharing your expertise as well. We want the TJLE to shine and reach the world with issues and solutions in literacy from the heart of Texas— we cannot do that without you.
All the best in the New Year,

TJLE Spring 2024 Issue: Vol. 11 No. 1
Theme: Collaboration for Success- Literacy Coaching and Professional Development in Education
Editor's Introduction
Greetings to those interested in literacy—particularly those with an interest in Texas literacy!
The theme of this issue is Collaboration for Success—Literacy Coaching and Professional Development in Education. Our hope with this issue was to share best practices for literacy coaching and collaborative teams in schools, as well as bring forward ideas for the future of literacy learning communities across the state and country. In this issue, we also shared a complementary resource, in which pairs poetry and picturebooks across curriculum and subject areas. As we close out the 2023- 2024 academic year, we know that schools will be making decisions to strengthen the professional learning communities, and hope that literacy and its many components is at the forefront of plans in the coming years.
As always, the Texas Journal of Literacy Education (TJLE) editorial team wishes to thank everyone who was a part of this issue—authors/researchers, new reviewers, and our faithful reviewers who are always there for us (we couldn’t produce this without you). As you browse through the scholarly and practitioner works in this issue, think about how the work shared can impact your classroom or someone you know. Share the journal contents with teachers, colleagues, and friends— but also consider sharing your expertise as well. Please see the Call for Manuscripts for our Fall 2024 issue at the end of this publication. This Fall’s themed issue will be: Social Justice Issues in Literacy Education. We want the TJLE to shine and reach the world with issues and solutions in literacy with a voice from the heart of Texas— we cannot do that without you.
